Alimento Lento- Slow Food
Tuesday October 16th, 2007
La Cucina is pleased to present our second annual evening of Slow Food: “Alimento Lento”. This night is a chance for us to rebel against the fast-paced fast-food world and return to the time-honored traditions of preparation and enjoyment of food. We are pleased to announce three very special Slow Food advocates – Chef Vince Sica, Reif Estate Winery owner Klaus Reif and University of Guelph Professor Mary DeCoste.
Chef Vince Sica, is the proprietor of the award-winning Carpaccio Restaurant and Wine Bar in Niagara Falls. His specialty is traditional Italian fare that focuses on natural foods and flavors, coupled with old-world charm and service. This philosophy of food makes him a perfect fit for the night.
Klaus Reif, whose winery celebrates its’ 25th anniversary in Niagara-on-the-Lake this year, will be personally pairing the best his vineyard has to offer with Chef Sica’s menu. A Director of the Wine Council of Ontario, he will join us to provide some insights into Reif Estate’s world- renowned wines.
Mary DeCoste, Professor of Italian at the University of Guelph, currently teaches a course entitled “Italian Food and National Identity” while she researches the roots of the Slow Food movement for her forthcoming book. She will educate our attendees as guest speaker for the event.
